A private firm recruiting for a position in Ukraine has posted a position offering up to $60,000 per month. Russia has already warned that mercenaries who join the fight in Ukraine are not entitled to prisoner of war status. The private firm is looking for former military agents for covert operations inside the country. They also added there’s a good chance you’ll come face-to-face with death squads and private militias dispatched by the Kremlin.
Hundreds of Russian mercenary groups have already been operating inside Ukraine for months, laying the groundwork for the invasion. Among them are fighters with the Wagner Group, a shadowy umbrella organization of PMCs linked to Yevgeny Prigozhin, a Russian tycoon and Putin ally.
The group has a reputation for savagery. The UN is investigating allegations that Wagner mercenaries killed more than 30 civilians during an operation against rebels in the Central African Republic this year. The group is alleged to have tortured and beheaded a prisoner in Syria in 2017.
Online recruiters are currently seeking experienced former soldiers from Britain, Europe, and the United States for extraction and protection missions. The arrival of mercenaries on either side could cause the conflict zone to disintegrate into a secret war between private armies, operating between the lines as Russian forces confront dogged Ukrainian resistance.
Zelensky’s unprecedented appeal for an “international legion” of foreign fighters to join the resistance has already attracted volunteers from across the globe. Ukrainian officials said that up to 16,000 had come forward, with visa requirements waived for foreigners ready to join the fight.
Working around them in the maelstrom of the conflict is a growing force of private military contractors. A job post appeared this week on a recruitment website for defense and private security, seeking an extraction and protective agent to carry out evacuation missions in Ukrainian cities and the countryside. The job pays up to $2,000 a day, with a bonus if completed.
The employer is a US-based corporation, they have stated that both male and female agents are welcome to apply. They are seeking highly experienced candidates who possess at least 5+ years of military experience in this region of Europe will be considered for this role — no exceptions.
Sources also added that Russia has made no secret that it is hunting the foreign fighters arriving to help Ukraine. Major-General Igor Konashenkov, the spokesman for the defense ministry, said last week that about 200 mercenaries from Croatia had joined the international brigade inside the country.
